Summary

Redemption Hyperlink Episode (E11) — There are so many themes in the Bible, from redemption to exile, to mountains and cities. In every series, we attempt to isolate and study one biblical theme. But it’s important to remember that biblical themes are woven together throughout the Bible like instruments in a symphony. Today in this hyperlink episode, we’ll listen to clips from previous podcast series where the theme of redemption also came up in Jon and Tim’s conversations.

Hello and welcome to Bible Project podcast. I'm your host today, Michelle Jones, back to wrap up our series on redemption.

0:13.2

This is a new type of episode we've been trying out called a Hyperlink episode. In every series,

0:19.5

we attempt to isolate and study a biblical theme. But it's

0:23.8

important to remember that biblical themes are woven together throughout the story of the Bible

0:29.3

like a symphony. Today, in this Hyperlink episode, we'll listen to clips from previous series

0:36.2

where the theme of redemption appears naturally in conversation.

0:41.2

1:36.1

Our first clip is from our series on the Leviticus scroll back in July of 2022.

1:45.0

At the very center of the scroll of Leviticus is a climactic ritual called the Day of Atonement, or Yom Kippur. On this day, the high priest casts lots for the fate of two innocent and blameless goats.

1:51.0

One goat symbolically receives the sin of Israel, and then is sent away to encounter a spiritual enemy in the wilderness named Azazel. The second goat is brought into God's

2:03.5

holy place, the tabernacle, and the blood of this goat is sprinkled on the cover of the Ark of the

2:09.4

Covenant, the throne of God himself. This is a strange image for us, but we need to remember that

2:16.4

in the ancient world, the blood symbolizes

2:19.4

life, and the life of something blameless can cover over the reality of death.

2:25.6

While this series on redemption has focused on the Passover Lamb, the Day of Atonement is another

2:32.2

piece of the biblical mosaic that helps us understand the death and resurrection of Jesus.

2:38.2

This conversation comes from the Leviticus Scroll series, Episode 6 titled What is the Day of Atonement?
