Today's topic is the year that broke our illusions with the incredible magician, author, Penn Gillette.

This year so far has been crazy.

Let's just jump right in.

What illusions for you have been shattered so far this year, if any?

Well, you know, the ones that have been shattered, I'm afraid are all kind of cliche.

I mean, so many people agree with it.

I mean, I believed firmly and strongly that there was never a president of the United States that wasn't much smarter than me.

There were presidents that I disagreed with very much philosophically and how I just thought we're making very bad decisions.

But they all seemed like they were wicked smarter than me.

And for the first time, we had a president that I knew, you know, I know personally and have worked with and who does not seem smarter than me.

And that's a fairly low bar for a president, you know, and that was terrifying.

And I had this feeling and I suppose, you know, illusion often has the connotation of something positive.
