Summary

We all get busy. Work piles up, routines take over, and before you know it, years have gone by since you last checked in with people who actually mattered to you. This episode is a reminder — and a bit of a kick in the ass — that it doesn’t take much to change that. You don’t need a reason, a holiday, or the “right time.” Just reach out. Call someone you haven’t talked to in five or ten years. Shoot a text. Reconnect. The longer you wait, the harder it gets, and the truth is, life’s too unpredictable to assume you’ll always get another chance. This one’s short, direct, and human. No fluff. Just a practical reminder to stop overthinking it and make the damn call. The returns—personally and professionally—are worth it.   If you found this helpful, check out:   •The Apprenticeship – our live workshop on communication and influence.   •Speaker School – for anyone who wants to present and persuade more effectively.   •Join our community at ArtofCoaching.com/community for bonus materials and episode breakdowns.   🎤 Art of Coaching Live Events Let’s be honest—most workshops leave you with a notebook full of tips and no real plan for change. Whether you’re dealing with a passive-aggressive coworker, trying to be more assertive without burning bridges, stuck in tension at home, or just tired of second-guessing yourself socially or professionally—we can help. This is potent personal and professional development that actually sticks. No fluff. No filler. We offer multiple pricing tiers and discounts—reach out at info@artofcoaching.com and we’ll help make it work for you. Here's a question I have for you. If you are not willing to invest in yourself in general, let alone during hard times. Why would you be surprised when others are not willing to invest in you? And I ask you this question because so many of you are really sharp, talented people, but you get in your own way. You overthink things. You make yourself busier than you need to. You fall into this trap of thinking it's not the right time and it's not good enough and you're not ready and that's a lot of the stuff that will hold you back. This is what our live events and our coaching are made for to help you overcome this. Whether it's our apprenticeship program, which focuses on how to have better hard conversations, how to negotiate, how to manage through conflict, how to do things that every coach and every leader is going to have to do, but do it better, or our speaker school, where you can become a more confident, clear speaker. These are things that give you immediate return on investment. They're things that help you earn more in your career. They're things that help you deal with the inevitable power dynamics that you're going to deal with. And there tends to be this kind of miss this misattribution of, oh, are these things only for people who struggle to communicate? Absolutely not. These are programs for people who know they don't want to leave any stone unturned in terms of self developmentdevelopment, professional development, development in all aspects. So if that's you and you value investing in yourself and you want others to invest in you, whether that's to pay you to come speak around the world or whether that's just to evaluate your work and see the true inside it provides, then get to artofcoaching.com slash events. Right now, we have interest-free payment plans.

This is the type of episode we try to do at least annually, but I would really like to do quarterly. Now, I know this could seem fluffy for some of you, but it has meaning. I want to encourage you, remind you, tell you, however, whatever word choice you wanna use, to make sure that you are taking some time out to reach out to people in your community. Try to look at your calendar every week, try to just go through your phone, scroll it, see whose name comes up, and reach out to three to four people a week just to check in on them. Literally, just to check in, see how they're doing. Obviously, people you genuinely care about, and the reason I say it is this, we live and I'm firm on this

A lot of people are changing jobs. A lot of people are trying to find their way in their career. I mean, you look at this 300, 400 years ago. There wasn't a whole lot of question of what your purpose was, right? You either became a farmer or you became a politician or you became a teacher or you were a tradesman or you were a hunter. Now, there's more people than ever before that just kind of feel lost. uncertain maybe they had a great career for a certain amount of time and they lost their job or they pivoted professions and they're really trying to find what they feel their best in the world at, or they're trying to feel where they belong. Or maybe it's somebody that has had a bunch of kids and they've really been focused on parenting, but they feel like they've lost the professional version of their persona,

5:05.2

or vice versa, it doesn't matter. My point is, is nothing catastrophic should have to happen for you to reach out to people in your network and just say, hey, I was thinking of you, it's been a while I'd like to reconnect. I even do this in my DMs. I reached out to two people last week that I hadn't talked to, it looked like we hadn't connected
