I am Byron York and I am here with our guest today who is the first guest that we have had who was not a member of Congress.

Not yet. That's a big honor. It is Mark McCurrian, who is the executive director, correct, of the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that favors greater restrictions on immigration.

Every time I write a story, and I have a quote from you or Jessica Vaughn or something from

the center, I have to sort of have a little template with those words.

I'm glad to be here.

And I just hope you do that when you quote somebody from, from say Cato or Center for American Progress.

A group that favors fewer restrictions on immigration. You're absolutely right and I do as a matter of fact.

So, as we speak, there are these negotiations going on for some sort of agreement, budget agreement on border security.

And of course, they seem to include a lot of things that there's bipartisan approval of. More money for

technology to detect illegal drugs at ports of entry, more money for immigration judges, more humanitarian aid for migrants who are in

custody, a lot of stuff like that.

But then there of course is this barrier.

And the question is, as far as I understand it,

Trump wants to build about 230 so miles of this steel slat fence wall whatever you want to call

it seems to me to be kind of a hybrid of a fence and a wall.

And about 80 of that would be replacing existing barriers, fences, and maybe 150 on areas that are currently unfenced.

And what is your assessment of Trump's proposal on this?
