My name is Jason Schreier, and I am here at E3 in the Sega slash Atlas Booth with Scott Strickart,

who is the localization producer for the Yakuza series.

Hello, Scott.

Thank you for being here.

Hey, Jason, thanks for having me.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy E3 day to come and geek out on Katakakus split screen.

I love it.

So I want to ask you a whole bunch of questions about localization and what the process is like.

I don't think we've had many localizers, if any, on the show.

So you might be the first localization producer on Kataka's split screen.

So welcome.

So I guess for starters, for people who like aren't familiar with the process of how this all works and who maybe assume that you just like get Japanese and translate it, can you walk us through exactly what happens?

Do you start with a translation and then work from there?

Yeah. So I, every company is going

to approach localization a little differently, but the Atlas way that, which is the way we still work is

we get Japanese texts from Japan, obviously, and we hit that with a translation pass. We put

translators on it who give us, I guess, what you'd call a very broad, dry read of the thing,

a more precise translation. Yeah.

Yeah.

And then we make a second pass on that with editors who clean it up for North American and,

well, Western consumption at this point.
