I lost my dad a week before I started at your home, man.

You always want to think that you're tough, and you always want to think that you're resilient,

but you really don't know what you're capable of until you put this situation like that.

But I do think adversity is really, really important to experience,

so you know how to better handle situations as they come up.

Because I think it's really hard for us to empathize with people if we haven't been through the ringer ourselves.

I think it's so important that when we're thinking about

programs and working with our athletes and our clients,

we need to see them as a human first.

And if things come up in their lives,

that they might not be training at their best

or they might not be eating at their best or they might not be eating at their best

or sleeping like they normally do.

We have to know where that's coming from

and how to help them and how to be a support

without being another stressor.
