Comedian Dwayne Kennedy came up through Chicago and he often found himself the only black guy

in a comedy club full of white people.

Recently, he's made a conscious decision to perform for more black crowds.

That's something that a lot of comics, no matter what their ethnicity is, find daunting.

I was scared of that myself, you know?

But then the thing is, black people vary, you know?

And they're different, like everybody else, just different sensibilities, different points

of view.

But I think the black audience that a lot of people have in their heads is the one that

they don't want to play to sometimes, you know?

Uh-oh.

They're going to, whatever is going to, you know, they just imagine the worst, just

like sometimes the black people that people have in their heads is the, where's the scariest

one?

Much scarier than any of the black people you actually encounter in the actual world.
