The Trump administration is sending 10 F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico to boost U.S. military

operations against drug cartels in the Caribbean. That's what two White House officials tell CNN.

It's part of a broader effort to increase the U.S.'s military presence in the region, according to one official.

The news comes as tensions rise between the U.S. and Venezuela over Washington's efforts to combat drug cartels.

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump said the U.S. conducted a deadly military strike near Venezuela's coast, against an alleged

drugboat tied to the cartel trend of Aragua. Yesterday, two Venezuelan military aircraft flew

near a U.S. Navy ship in international waters, a move the Defense Department called, quote,

highly provocative. Today, Trump threatened to shoot down Venezuelan planes that put Americans

in a quote, dangerous position. Florida officials say its new immigration detention facility

dubbed deportation depot is now housing detainees. The site is a temporarily closed state prison,

located about 45 miles west of Jacksonville.

It marks the second immigration detention facility the state has opened since the controversial
