News has come through that Hollywood writers have reached a tentative agreement with the major studios,

but that doesn't mean that Hollywood will go back to work because the actors' unions are still on strike.

Red carpets aren't quite red carpets when the actors aren't there, and most importantly, nor are the jewels.

So we thought it was a good moment in this hiatus to reflect on the red carpet and how it works.
