Summary

With social distancing in place around the globe, it might seem as though loneliness is the new normal. But there’s a big difference between being lonely and just being alone, says Stephanie Cacioppo, PhD, often cited as the world’s leading expert on the emotion. On this episode of Trained, Dr. Cacioppo dials in to break down the effects of loneliness on our minds and bodies, and to explain its unique role in human evolution. Most importantly, she offers up tactics for coping with it at a time when a lot of the ways we used to connect are off the table.
