Summary

Despite mainstream media accounts asserting that heroic individuals putting an end to mass shootings is a statistically exceptional event, research suggests that such instances occur more frequently than people think, says crime researcher Dr. John Lott. According to Lott, the mass shooters frequently indicate in their diaries or manifestos that they want to attract media attention and that they are aware that the more victims they kill, the more attention they will receive. These individuals repeatedly mention going to a location where they know victims can't protect themselves while leaving comments explaining why they hit the target that they did. They are not naive. They are aware that if individuals have the ability to defend themselves, they won't be able to murder as many people and won't garner as much media attention as they would want.

0:02.6	I know we talked, I can't remember exactly how long ago it was,
0:05.5	but right on time, we have another reason to have you back on the show.
0:11.1	And the reason I wanted to have you come on was to kind of talk about some of the things
0:15.1	that have been going on with respect to this assault weapons ban.
0:18.5	But also more specifically to the idea that there aren't many cases where
0:24.8	citizens are actually defending themselves against mass shootings.
0:27.6	I actually did a video just yesterday talking about how they create the situation
0:32.7	in that they have, that they fight for these gun free zones.
0:36.2	But then turn around and tell us and almost mock us and say,
0:40.0	Ha, ha, you guys actually don't stop mass shooters as much as you think you do.
0:44.3	And this one is just a one off.
0:46.2	And so based on your experience and research that you have done,
0:50.0	what are the true realities regarding self-defense shootings,
0:54.0	where civilians are not only just stopping mass shootings,
0:56.4	but just stopping shootings altogether and protecting themselves with firearms?
1:01.6	Right, well, we've put together a long list of cases where civilians
1:06.5	legally carrying guns stop what police say otherwise would have been mass public shootings.
1:12.6	10 cases in the last 12 months, if 21 cases,
1:17.5	since the beginning of all together in recent years, we have 63 cases that we've identified.
1:25.8	And, you know, it's, they rarely get media coverage.
1:30.3	Some of these are very dramatic cases.
