About Dr. James Vickers:
 
Dr. Vickers is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Tasmania and the Director of The Wicking Dementia Research & Education Center.
 
 
Distinguished Prof Vickers has an extensive track record in interventional cohort studies, cognition, neurogenetics, health services research and neuroscience research, and has published over 200 refereed articles. Distinguished Prof Vickers has held several national leadership roles, such as President of the Australasian Neuroscience Society (ANS, 2014–2016) and Chair of the Scientific Panel of the Alzheimer's Australia Dementia Research Foundation (2014-2016).
 
He was awarded a Doctor of Science from University of Tasmania in 2005 in recognition of his contribution to neuroscience research. He is a Board Member of the Dementia Australia Research Foundation and a member of the Dementia Expert Reference Group for the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
 
About The Wicking Dementia Research & Education Center:
 
The Wicking Dementia Centre was established in 2008 with seed funding from the J.O. and J.R. Wicking Trust. The Wicking Centre has an academic mission to undertake globally recognised and high-impact research and education. Research themes relate to the prevention, cause and care of dementia.
 
Teaching programs include formal university courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level through to a suite of free online courses, including MOOCs on major neurological conditions.
 
The social mission of the Centre is centred on making a difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their carers.

pleasure. You know, I want to start off with talking about the MOOC courses that you offer there,

because I know one of your previous times joining us, that was something you guys were launching.

You know, you have the versions that are free.

You helped to create the bachelors and the master's program of dementia that good friends of ours.

You know, Tim England and others had completed and they were the first time graduates, Bettina Morrow.

And, you know, they're doing wonderful work,

and I kind of think that probably gives you great pride because, you know, you saw them go through

the course and they were the first to complete the master's, and now they're out there kind of carrying

on the work you envisioned, I imagine. But these MOOC courses are kind of similar to that.

It's to help educate people, give them an awareness because you and I both know, you know, when you're caring for a loved one with dementia, it's not a one-size-fits-all. You know, if you and I both get diagnosed with, unfortunately, you know, an illness, a lot of illnesses is the same pathology, it's the same, you know, treatment courses,

but with dementia, that's not always the case. You know, you could have a loved one affected

entirely different than I do. And so you have these MOOC courses at the Wicin Dementia Research
