You know those superhero movies where Hollywood portrays the hero as this person of muscles and strength and

superpowers and an inflated ego.

Those are not the true superheroes.

Today, you're going to listen to a real superhero.

When she was a teenager back in 1944,

she faced up against the worst evil

the human race has ever known.

As a Jew living in the Nazi occupied Eastern Europe,

she and her family were sent to Auschwitz, where in a matter of hours she witnessed her own mother

being sent to the gas chamber. The way she handled the concentration camp from then onwards

kept her and her sister alive. On May 4th, 1945, a young American soldier noticed her hand moving slightly as she was buried under a number of dead bodies. He quickly summoned

medical help and brought her back from the brink of death so that, as she sometimes says herself, she was saved to save so many others.

Today, Edith Eager is a prolific author,

a clinical psychologist.

She holds a faculty appointment

at the University of California, San Diego.

And she has inspired millions
