Summary

Conventional treatment for diabetes has been wrong for many years. Dr Benjamin Bikman explains the real cause of diabetes, and how to naturally reverse diabetes and insulin resistance through diet changes. Foods That Lower Insulin With Dr Benjamin Bikman: https://youtu.be/oJiuFDrdS6M Type 2 diabetes symptoms result in higher levels of glucose. Is the solution glucose reducing medications such as insulin? Dr Benjamin Bikman makes the case that medication for diabetes is not getting to the cause. The proper diabetes type 2 diet plan meals should include foods that do not spike glucose and insulin that much. This is why the keto diet and intermittent fasting can be a great way to overcome this lifestyle disease. Purchase Dr Benjamin Bikman's latest book Why We Get Sick: https://amzn.to/3foRBE9 Dr. Benjamin Bikman studies diabetes and obesity, and much of what he focuses on is a seemingly obscure condition called insulin resistance. But it's, in fact, not very obscure at all. What is insulin resistance? Why did Dr. Benjamin Bikman devote his career to studying something like this? Well, insulin resistance is essentially two things. First of all, some cells in your body aren't responding very well to the hormone insulin. Second, you have more insulin than you did before, a condition called hyperinsulinemia. Dr. Bikman's research focus is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that mediate the disruption that causes and accompanies metabolic disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dementia. Driven by his academic training (Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and postdoctoral fellowship with the Duke-National University of Singapore in metabolic disorders), he is currently exploring the different roles of insulin and ketones as critical drivers of metabolic function. He frequently publishes his research in peer-reviewed journals and presents at international science meetings. 1:27.0

Potentially up to 88% of American adults have insulin resistance to some degree.

1:33.2

So it is, without a doubt, it is the single most common metabolic or most common problem,

1:39.0

full stop in the world.

1:41.2

It is the most common health disorder in the world and that makes it doubly relevant

1:46.9

That means only 12% of people are actually

1:51.6

Metabolically flexible.

1:52.8

That's right. Yep, yep. So metabolic health is something only 12% of US adults can claim.

1:58.0

So shouldn't we be focusing on that then? That's right. Yeah, so it seems like I like to use this analogy of a tree where conventional medicine is looking

2:07.4

at the branches and it keeps pruning the branches, but the branches are always blossoming

2:11.5

again and growing back. But if they're all branches are always blossoming again and growing back.

2:13.0

But if they're all branches from the same tree, let's just cut the tree down.

2:17.0

And to a very real degree, that's what insulin resistance is.
