I'm a little shocked.

It's been six months since I've been behind this microphone.

I did have to go to a quick refresher course to find out which buttons to push. I already had to get the broken shade in the studio fixed.

So, but I got the vending machine to work. So I had the recent peanut butter cups and I got a Diet Coke going here. So all as well. I'll explain later why it's been six months since I've been here. And no,

it's not because management heard what I did the last time. Although that might have been part of

the factor in here. Tons to talk about, we have a new LAPD chief elect.

He has to be confirmed, of course, by the L.A. City Council.

But Karen Bass named a well-known law enforcement figure, the former sheriff of L.A. County.

And, of course, spent a long time with the LAPD and will now presumably ascend to the top of the pyramid for law enforcement

in the city of Los Angeles. Jim McDonnell to talk to us about how this decision was made and what it

means going forward. It's a pleasure to welcome from the KFI newsroom, Mr. Steve Gregory. Steve,

I'm good. Good to be back and good to have you with us to kick off. This is a big story.

I arguably, with the exception of how homeless programs play out because that's such a big story locally and impacts people on a daily basis, this is really one of the most far-reaching decisions

any L.A. mayor can make. Yeah, this was, it was a big surprise and shocked to some and a

welcome relief for others. And it was interesting because rumors had started to float in the last

week or so when some media outlets had started

reporting like the top three finalists.
