Summary

Thousands of years ago, the prophet Ezekiel foretold a future time in which the arid land of Israel would come alive for its people. Doug Hershey’s new breathtaking book documents the fulfillment of this vision, from the hills of Shiloh where shepherds once roamed; to the booming city of Tel Aviv, founded on sand dunes; to the stellar beaches of Caesarea, transformed from a small village into one of Israel’s most stunning coastal cities; and finally, Jerusalem, the Eternal City of Peace, where in ancient times the power of worship resounded from the Temple. 0:38.2	We're going to be talking about one of my favorite subjects today and I know it's one of
0:41.6	yours. The fact that Israel is back in the land and big things are happening there.
0:48.0	Tell us a little bit about your life in Israel as a tour guide and as a traveler?
0:55.0	Well, I've been going to Israel for about 20 years.
0:58.9	I've been connecting with the people there for about as long.
1:05.2	And through the time of just being in the land, connecting with friends, having dinner, you know, exploring
1:12.5	the land myself, putting the pieces together with the Bible, just seeing a lot of the needs
1:16.0	in the land. And just really, you know, my heart just continue to be pulled into the land.
1:23.1	It's hard not to be when you're there for sure.
1:25.9	And Doug's put together a book and we're going to be talking about this book using it
1:30.3	rather as a basis for a conversation about modern Israel.
1:33.3	It's called Israel Rising and it's not like any book you have ever seen before.

1:39.3	A hundred pictures in this book but each picture has a duplicate. What a great idea. Tell people
1:47.0	what you did. Yeah, I found old photos that were taken between the 1880s and the 1940s and went
1:53.4	back with Elise Terrio, pro photographer, to reshoot the exact same angles to show how much that
1:59.7	the land has responded under Israeli sovereignty.
2:03.4	And so there's over 100 photo comparisons from over 25 locations all over the land.
2:09.1	You know, for the first time I opened this book, I had not planned on sitting down and
