Not just what you say you believe, but what you actually believe.

It was only 8 a.m., and already bullets were ripping through the air over Peter Akesh's head.

He was the chaplain for a contingent of Christian soldiers from southern Sudan.

I came as a chaplain since 1999.

Unlike the chaplains in most militaries, he was armed.

His unit was trying to recapture a base that had been taken by rival troops from the north,

mostly Arab Muslims.
