Reading the New Testament from the perspective of the 21st century. Some things are not readily apparent.

How different the situations being described there in the New Testament, especially with regard to women, are from what the world would have been for women in those days. We tend to think in egalitarian terms.

We tend to sometimes even mistakenly think in feminist terms, but in the New Testament, what the Christians were doing, especially with regard to women, was countercultural and, in some

cases, offensive to the Roman world.
