Summary

Heard of "doping" when it comes to SPF? Today you'll learn all about it. Sunscreen is the most important step in your morning skincare routine, but there's still so much confusion around it, as well as challenges brands have to overcome in the US that prohibits us from having more sophisticated UV filters. Sophie Bai, biomedical engineer, cancer drug developer and the founder/CEO of Pavise is our guest today, discussing those challenges in sunscreen development and regulation, the classification of sunscreen as a drug, mislabeling of sunscreens, inaccurate SPF claims, flaws in broad spectrum testing, and what separates Pavise Dynamic Age Defense SPF 30 from other sunscreens.

Spring is always cold to me.

0:36.1

Like, unless you get into May and then you're like, all right, but spring for the most part stays cold, so whatever.

And she was such a wealth of knowledge, specifically when it comes to mineral sunscreens, which I know a lot of people gravitate towards because it's non-iritating.

However, it's not usually the most inclusive.

1:28.6

And so we wanted to have Sophie on to pick her brain about all things.

1:34.1

SPF, sunscreen, testing.

1:36.5

She knows so much.

1:39.2

And I know I'm continuing to talk, but I want to give her little intro here because this woman is an actual genius.

1:47.6

Sophie was recognized by NASA at the age of 16 for discovering an anti-aging compound, which is, Sarah, what were you doing at 16?

1:55.5

We were both fan girling over J.C. Shazze. That's what we were doing.

1:58.7

Yeah, literally, like, recording and sync performances on a VHS tape.C. Chazé. That's what we're doing. Yeah, literally, like, recording thing, recording
