Summary
An eight-year-old boy moves into a house with his parents and grandparents. The new home feels like a dream — sunlit kitchen, a grassy yard, a long hallway leading to a quiet back bedroom. But that back room, shaded by a stand of banana trees, carries a chill in the air… and a whisper that seems to rise with the wind.
At first, it’s only soft murmurs. Then the whispers start calling his name — in his father’s voice, then his mother’s. Each time he answers, he finds them nowhere near the source of the sound. His deeply spiritual mother gives him a rule he never forgets: “If you hear us calling and we’re not there, don’t answer it.”
Years pass, but the voices don’t. They even mimic his sister’s name, luring them from their rooms. One blistering summer afternoon, while showering after yardwork, he hears his father scream his name in agony… even though his father is miles away at the dump. As he races out dripping wet, a freezing breeze sweeps across his chest — a touch he still remembers decades later.
This is the story of a haunting that doesn’t need shadows to terrify — it just needs your name.
