The Michael Berry Show That is not the song I ask for. Well, this is the kind of thing I have to deal with on a daily basis. I requested a particular song that I did not get.

Now it's distracting me, but I'm going to tell you a story anyway.

In 1962, Jerry Scroggins was working as a stockbroker, but he was singing on the weekends and he was asked to sing a theme song for a new sitcom.

Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs played guitar and banjo while Jerry Scroggins sang the lyrics.

The song was called The Ballad of Jed Clampett was a smash hit on the charts.

Lester Flat would go on to sing on the single, but not on the show itself.

30 years later, Jerry Scroggins had retired.

By this time he's 82 years old, sorry 81 years old.

And somebody tells him that 20th century Fox is making a film version of that series

that he's saying the theme song for the

Beverly Hillbillies. So the 81 year old Scroggins, sorry Scoggins not Scoggins.

I'm thinking of Earl Scruggs.

Scoggins called 20th Century Fox,

and he was told, sir, we had no idea you were still alive.

They had already begun negotiations with Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson, that one of them would sing the theme song.

But the director, Penelope Spyrus, learned what had happened and insisted. No, not Johnny Cash, not Willie Nelson.

80 year old, 81 year old Jerry Skoggins. We'll sing it. Just as he did in the television show.

He said he figured he'd probably sung the ballot over a thousand times

since its original recording.
