Does the U.S. still need the prison at Guantanamo Bay?

Hello again, I'm Aran Alney, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

A daily look at the issues Americans care about most.

Barack Obama's first presidential order was to close Guantanamo Bay. Even George W. Bush agreed,

but it's still open and as controversial as ever. More than half, the 166 remaining prisoners

are on a hunger strike, and last week, military guards put down an uprising. Today we'll hear

what classified documents reveal about inmate behavior

and abusive treatment of prisoners being held without charge.

Is there still a war on terror requiring military tribunals?

Will there be future enemy combatants too dangerous to handle in the courts?
