Hey guys, today we're going to talk about heart attacks and diuretics, specifically

of those diuretics like viazide, which depletes potassium when you take them.

What you need to know, if you're taking a diuretic, is that 40% of people who take diuretics

end up with hypochalemium, that's low potassium in your blood.

From those people, you have an increased risk of eating heart attack by 10 times.

Low potassium in the blood increases your risk for getting a heart attack.

Now what's the reason why you're taking a diuretic in the first place to prevent a heart

attack because you have high blood pressure, right?

Well, the side effect is, hello, increasing your risk, right?

And also, if you're diabetic, for example, you're for sure going to have even low potassium

even more.

And potassium deficiencies in general increase the blood pressure.

I think really what happens is you start off having a potassium deficiency and then you end

up with high blood pressure.

And then you're on this, which then depletes more potassium, and the cycle just goes around

around.

So you may want to consider taking some more potassium if you're on this diuretic.

Now what's really weird is that potassium pills come in 99 milligrams or less.

You can't find them over 99 milligrams unless they're in a powder.
