Monday opens the NFL's legal tampering

period. Mondays when teams can contact whoever fits into this category and Fields happens to be

one of the most prominent players in the league in there and they can do so without cheating.

They can do so without circumventing anything.

Omar Khan had said in Indianapolis the scouting combine a few days ago that he'd rather get

field signed before he hits the open market, and that basically is the open market.

But it's getting kind of dark outside in that regard.

So what I want to do today is offer some background as opposed to the usual pounding on the desk for the team to get this done.

That might help explain why the situation's gotten to where it is, as well as why it's not necessarily alarming. And I'm going to do that

principally from the perspective of the agent. I have spent a lot of my professional career

communicating with agents, most of those in Major League Baseball, but also in the other two sports, football and hockey.
