Mike Tomlin wasted a pretty good portion of his press conference yesterday trying to convince everybody again that his offense has problems that are specific to third down, as if there's something different

or special that you need to do on third down versus just having an efficient and rhythmic

offense.

I'm going to talk about another down instead today.

he had the following to say or really reiterate from his post-game press conference

the other night in Englewood, California.

You got to possess the ball in an effort to score.

And certainly if you're not doing a good enough job on possession downs, you need to have some

big play splash. And we didn't really have either. Sometimes you can hit a 50-yard ball or what have

you and flip the field and change the trajectory of that.

And so a combination of possession down failures coupled with a lack of big time field flipping plays

produce the outcome that it did.

At the same time, it alters your time of possession.
