conventional wisdom has had it forever that any team that gets two starters out of an NFL draft class

and I'm talking about two immediate near-future types.

They've done well.

If they get three, they've done really well.

So what's that mean toward the instant evaluation of the local class?

The draft itself, of course, has been pronounced a universal success by everybody,

from the league to the 805,000 people who attended to set a record for one of these events

to public officials, to organizers, to just people who came here, and a lot of whom, including of some

profile who left singing, their praises of our downtown, our north shore, our city as a whole.

You'd better believe that's a W unto itself.

This past Friday and then again Saturday in an extra daily shot, I went over

Steelers' first five picks. Maxi Hanachur in the first round, 21st overall, the gigantic right tackle

out of Arizona State. In the second round, the versatile and sure-handed, Jeremy Bernard, a wide receiver

out of Alabama, had one drop in 102 targets this past season.

There were three third-round picks, Drew Aller, a quarterback out of Penn State, whose

selection I've been pretty much pleading for

for months now, and Dalen Everett, a coronerback out of Georgia, good height at 6'1 and some edge

to his game. Jennings Dunker Nails Tough Guard out of Iowa, rounded out those five to round out the class. In the fifth, the choice was
