This is Daily Shot of Pirates. It comes your way bright and early every weekday. If you're into football and or hockey, I also offer daily shots of Steelers and Penguins that I hope you'll also check out a little context here. Pirates Fest was over the weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center downtown.

Many people came, many people had a good time, many autographs were signed, many people

aren't very happy. With the state of the organization, all of that makes for a rather strange

event. And the highlight of that event for the people who aren't happy anyway is the

management Q&A. That's been true since the dawn of Pirates Fest, whether it was at the

science center, whether it was at the stadium. Everyone wants their chance to ask the questions

that they want to ask.

So, the context.

Bob Nutting's not been a part of that.

That's not been a him thing.

Other owners do partaken such events, even when the fans are unhappy.

The Chicago Cubs happen to have their event on the same weekend as the Pirates,

and their owner was there, taking questions.

Nutting did address a group of season ticket holders the night before.

That tends to be, how do I put this, a little bit friendlier in terms of environment, because I've been to both of these things.

And the season ticket holders, and I say this with immense respect, because you are the lifeblood

of the franchise, but you're also so sappy. You're so, oh, we love these players. It's just all about the players and no one ever

really stops to wonder about what awfulness might be occurring behind the curtain that virtually

ensures that these players don't have any sort of collective success. That's not fun.

The Pirates can be fun.
