Pirates versus Reds is tonight, a great American ballpark.

Three games in Cincinnati.

Three games that'll settle nothing, that will determine nothing.

But they'll either add to the ongoing hole digging that we've seen to date,

or they'll begin to pull this team out of this

awful start. Pirates are five and eight. The reds are five and eight. There go all the excuses.

There goes the slow start concept. There goes the we've really gotten pitched to concept, which is one that

by the way, doesn't just come from Derek Shelton. It is very much a widely held belief within

the clubhouse. Players told me the same thing this week at PNC Park from Sandy Alcantara in

Miami across the board. They really feel like they've seen some big arms doing some big things.

Well, throw it all out. It's Pirates versus Reds. The two twins floating near or at the bottom of the NL Central for only about three decades now.

It's been an interesting week related to the baseball club, obviously.

Almost all of that, of course, having nothing to do with anything on the actual field.

But I've long been a believer when it comes to this sort of thing related to this specific operation that everything emanates from the bad baseball.

It's not the other way around.
