The Flyers beat the Hurricanes 3 to 2 via shootout last night in Philadelphia,

and in doing so, those two points were enough to bury both the Blue Jackets and the Capitals

and secure their place in the first round against their arch-rivals at the correct end of the Commonwealth.

This will represent the eighth playoff meeting between these franchises,

the first since, of course, 2018.

What makes 2018 significant is that it's the last time the Penguins won any playoff series.

Oh, wait, it's the last time any Pittsburgh team won anything in any playoff at any major league level.

Now, I'm going to skip to the ending here.

The ending, from my perspective,

is that the Penguins are the better team, that the Flyers enter this round as the underdog.

I don't really feel like I'm even stating an opinion here. Look at the standings,

look at what it took for both to get there, and then look at some other statistics along the way.

The main one for me is that head-to-head, the Penguins were the superior team, and this series

will of course be played head-to-head.
