Anybody who knows anything about hockey communities knows that half of everybody spends half of all of their respective time trying to convince the other side that they don't know hockey.

don't you? I'm Dan Kavachvich of D.K. Pittsburgh Sports, and this is Daily Shot of Penguins. It

So a couple of my more regular and, by the way, more knowledgeable hockey commenters out of the

thousands that we have got into a good little discussion over the

weekend about whether or not your favorite team is either stuck in what they referred to as

the mushy middle or whether it would be prudent to get out of the mushy middle if they're in it in one direction or the other.

What is the mushy middle?

Well, in this context, it's that the penguins don't go through all the way through a rebuild that allows them not only to build up the kind of youth that they have over the past

couple of years to Kyle Dubus's credit, but they don't come away with the star type, the elite

type of prospect or prospects. Or they could go the other direction, and that would be to, you know,

kind of take it back to where it was a couple of years ago.

And Dubus would say to everybody, here we go again, this is it.

We've got 16 million or whatever it is left to spend.

We're going to go and get some big name monster left-handed defenseman.

And I'll stop that scenario right there
