and part of that is creating your own potting soil mixes if you so choose.

Now this collection of recipes is actually from my friend Stephanie Rose. Her website is called Garden Therapy.

C. A and I just recently finished her book which is all about a bunch of

different DIY projects you can do in the garden so So I highly recommended it. It's called Garden

Alchemy. We've had her on the podcast before so many of you probably know Stephanie

already but I thought what I would do is share a little bit of her wisdom on some

different peat-free soil recipes that you can use.

Okay? So let's go ahead and get into it.

Why would you want to not use peat is the subject for a different episode. There's a lot of hot debate around that topic,

but suffice to say, let's say you say, I don't want to use Pete, what should I use instead?

Okay, let's figure that out. Here is a peat alternative. This is one of Stephanie's recipes.

One part compost, one part coconut quar, and one part rice hulls or purlite. So that's a way to create peat moss without actually

using peat. Right? So that's one that you can use. Now here's her recipe for a

DIY all-purpose potting soil. This is a peat-free mix. So two parts compost,

you're gonna want to screen it, you don't want large chunks in there, two parts your peat moss alternative,

so your compost coconut corn perlite, and then one part perlite.

Now it's important to remember, the first thing we talked about, the peat moss alternative is kind of like

your starter recipe right you're gonna make a big batch of that and use that as one of the

ingredients in the next soil mixes we'll talk about so So every time I say Pete Moss alternative, what I mean is one part compost, one part coconut core, and one part purlite. Okay? Let's talk about another mix. Another mix is going to be your cacti and succulent mix.

In this situation, you don't even need peed at all. You don't even need the alternative.
