And this week, we're going to cover a little bit in this podcast of some things that are not in the reading to set the stage for the reading.

It's a short reading assignment this week, just a few chapters in kings that are powerful.

But you won't understand them or draw the lessons from this as well or make sense of a whole lot of the readings that come here after if you don't understand what happens in this reading assignment.

So we're going to make sure we understand what happens between Solomon and Elijah.

So as our last week's reading ended, Solomon was dying.

He'd had that, really the faltering at the end where he didn't do as he should.

And we get at the very end of chapter 11, verse 43 in Solomon slept with his father's, which is a way of

saying he dies and is buried, the place where his ancestors were buried and was buried in the city

of David, his father. So that is

in Jerusalem. Remember, the city of David is not Bethlehem, it's Jerusalem, except for in Luke two.

In the city of David, his father, in Rehoboam, his son reigned in his stead. So Rehoboam becomes king.

But this is not going to last for long where he's king over all 12 tribes because Rehoboam is having some issues.

Not all 12 tribes are so sure that Solomon was powerful, but he had taxed and taxed and taxed.

And it had gotten very difficult for everyone.

And they're not so sure this is going to work well.
