0:15.6

Anion gap metabolic acidosis part one.

0:18.8

Now I'll make a reference to episode 321. its podcast titled The Clutch metabolic Acidosis Podcast. In that podcast, I pretty much address metabolic acidosis in general. I talk about mechanisms and many different things, but really in this

0:34.0

podcast I want a laser in on an ion gap metabolic acidosis. I'm going to give you some

0:39.7

background in this podcast and then in the next podcast God willing I will talk about

0:44.8

mechanisms behind the different kinds of an iron gap metabolic acidosis.

0:48.7

So if you're something you want to understand, consider listening, start with

0:51.9

episode 321 it will help you.

0:53.4

But if you don't want to start there, that's fine.

podcast.

1:22.3

Simple as that. The bicarb is low so your pH is going to be low as well. Simple as that. The bicarb is low so your pH is going to be low as well.

1:26.3

And usually you're going to compensate for that with a respiratory alkalosis.

1:30.0

So you try to hyperventilate to bluff some extra CO2 because if you bring down CO2 that you're triggered

1:35.3

a respiratory alkalosis which can counterbalance the metabolic acidosis.

1:40.4

So now let's get into this whole business of the an ion gap.

1:43.0

But again, what's one of the easiest ways to understand this thing?

1:46.0
