Multiple riders waived that appeal to heaven flag

as they descended on the capital that day.

The flag itself dates back to the American Revolution, but like the Gadsden flag, also known as the

Don't Tread on Me flag, its revolutionary war history has been obscured by its contemporary

significance.

The appeal to heaven flag has become the new banner

for the Christian fundamentalist wing of Trump's

Stop the Steel Movement.

And that is thanks to this guy. Dutch Sheets. Yes, I know that

sounds like the name of a Linens company in the Netherlands, but it's actually a person.

Dutch Sheets is a prominent evangelical minister on the American right.
