Hello and welcome to disaster area. My name is Jennifer Maderice, and this is sort of an introductory

episode. I've never actually done a podcast before, so please bear with me. As you can see,

we're a little bare bones right now. I don't have any sort of introductory music or anything like

that. What I plan to do with this

particular episode is give you some idea of what I plan to do with this podcast, introduce

myself a little bit, tell you what I'm going to talk about, what I'm not going to talk about in each

episode, and give you some idea of

what I'm thinking about doing for the first episode, the first official episode. This is obviously

the first episode, but we'll see how it goes. Introducing me, of course, my name is Jennifer,

as I said before. I'm 38 years old. This year,

I graduated from Keystone College in Pennsylvania with a communications degree. So we'll see if I've earned that with this particular podcast.

I first got interested in disasters when I was about 10.

I read A Night to Remember by Walter Lord, arguably the best book on a disaster ever written.

For those of you who don't know, it's about the Titanic disaster.

And I highly recommend it.

Just in general, it's a wonderful book.

There was also about the time in my life that I read The Stand by Stephen King.

I was a little ahead of myself reading-wise at that age.

But between the two books, I think it impacted my choice in reading material and viewing material a lot over the course of my life.

I read a lot on different disasters, shipwrecks, plane crashes, those sorts of things.

I love disaster movies.

They're some of my favorite sorts of movies.
