Summary

Did Bryan Kohberger Plant Other DNA at the Scene to Mislead Investigators?
Could Bryan Kohberger’s defense be playing the long game? With new mental health records handed over to prosecutors, the question arises: is this about proving innocence or simply avoiding the death penalty? Tony Brueski and former felony prosecutor Eric Faddis break down the implications of this risky move—one that could open up Kohberger’s entire medical history to scrutiny. Was his alleged criminal planning as meticulous as some believe, or did he overlook the basics of crafting an alibi? And what’s the real strategy behind the defense’s latest play? Could this be a signal for a plea deal, or is this case destined for trial no matter what?

Here now, Tony Bruske.

0:09.4

Howard Blum, the author of the book about the case where he really got in there, really

0:15.1

investigated.

0:15.8

He was recently on with Megan Kelly, I believe, talking about this.

0:19.0

And he had a very interesting theory as we'll go back

0:22.4

over here to the unknown DNA from on the glove and on the railing. His theory was that

0:31.3

maybe Coburger planted it. Maybe Coburger put it there to try and throw investigators off. It's an interesting theory,

0:40.8

but again, if you're going to do that, why would you put it in such obscure places, like over here

0:46.4

on the handrail and in a glove somewhere outside? I would think if you're trying to skew someone's

0:52.0

investigation, you'd have it right there by the knife sheath or by the

0:57.2

bodies or something where it would certainly be identified. I think you're kind of rolling the dice

1:02.6

here that even that DNA was going to be found the way it was. Yeah, I mean, there's certainly

1:09.7

a level of intrigue to that theory.

1:11.8

And keep in mind, Brian Kopberger was a PhD student in criminology.

1:16.0

And so he kind of has some unique insights that not, you know, your normal student would have.

1:22.6

That being said, if he was such a criminal mastermind, why did he botopped his alibi so terribly? And, you know,

1:30.5

there are just other missteps that I think a criminal mastermind would not have made. And so,

1:35.6

you know, interesting to consider. It is. It is. And you make a lot of good points.

1:40.9

Sir, if he is the criminal mastermind, thought far enough ahead to go, I'm going to throw people off the trail with somebody else's blood. I'm not quite sure where

1:48.9

you go get somebody else's blood, quite honestly, that easily to go, I'm going to put this on a rail,

1:53.6

I'm going to put this on a glove. Two people's blood. I mean, I suppose you could figure out a way somehow. I don't know what that would be, and I'm not going to contemplate it really any more than this. But it would be quite a stretch to go that far. And if you're going to go that far, you're exactly right. Your alibi is simply you like looking at the stars, or is that more so a reaction to the fact that he got caught?
