And yesterday, David McMenneman reported that Doreen Phenny Smith had successful surgery on his ankle.

This has been an injury that's been lingering for him for a couple of

years, and including this season where when he got traded to the Lakers D, he was on a minute's

restriction for quite a while. It had been something he'd missed, I think, a dozen games with

the nets over the course of this season, had injury management on this throughout, that

this is an effort to kind of clean that up and get him

right starting next season. It's also notable that normally when players have any degree of

free agent uncertainty, getting surgery going under the knife is not something that they want to do.

So the fact that he felt secure enough to make that move, we can read the tea leaves as we wish, D, but we're going to use

this as an opportunity to talk about him. He, despite the fact that he has a player option, I view

him as one of the likelier players to be back with the Lakers next season, once you get past

LeBron, Luca, Austin. And I would love to use this as an opportunity to talk about him, both his arrival
