Summary

Tension builds as the discussion turns to Team USA’s loss and the spotlight on managerial decisions, particularly the criticism surrounding Mark DeRosa. Evan and Tiki examine key in-game choices, communication breakdowns, and whether the backlash is fair given the behind-the-scenes influence of MLB teams on player availability. The conversation broadens into how the World Baseball Classic serves as a launching pad for future MLB managers while also exposing the challenges of leading international rosters. They dig into eligibility rules, how teams are constructed, and the balance between national pride and professional priorities, offering a deeper look at what makes the tournament both compelling and complicated.

It is not as big as the NBA's. I admit that. I think sometimes in the emotion of an NFL season,

0:04.7

I will claim it's worse than the NBA. But the NBA's got a major issue. A third of the league is tanking,

0:09.1

including the team I root for. I fully understand why they're doing it. And I think it's happening

0:13.3

for a myriad of reasons. Most of it being the nature of the sport. But the other reason why

0:18.6

tanking in the NBA is such a problem this year is what we're about to watch on Thursday. There are four or five potential franchise players

0:27.7

in this NBA draft. And so unlike last year, where teams were tanking for a specific player

0:33.0

in Cooper Flagg, this year they're tanking to just make sure they're in the bottom three,

0:36.7

bottom four, bottom five. And I think that is contributed to the tanking issue in the NBA.

0:41.2

What does that have to do with the NFL? It has everything to do with the NFL.

0:45.2

Look at what this quarterback draft may look like next year.

0:49.1

Next year. Not this year. Next year.

0:51.8

Yeah. And you've even said it to calm my nerves as a jet fan. Wow, there may be four quarterbacks and maybe this. And Sean said Arch Manning, you know, he could be the next great quarterback. Right. If all of this turns out to be the case, what do you think the NFL is going to look like in November for the bad teams? For the teams that are obvious in need of a quarterback or looking for an upgrade at quarterback. Where this is going to happen? They're going to race to the bottom. They're going to race to the bottom. It's the same thing that's happening right now. It's like, and the problem in the NBA, just to mention it real quick, is it, like, as a Nick observer, because we were, our local team, the only one that's relevant regarding the postseason, you watch some of these games and you're like, harsh. Okay, they've won four in a row. And then you realize they're playing teams that don't care. Not the Knicks' fault, but yes. Exactly. But what can you garner from it? Like, what can you take from the Knicks big win against the Indiana Pacers last night? It won by 20 almost. And it's like, and you should have won by 50. Right. Right? You said that somebody scored 80 points. I think the biggest problem is that it's a third of the league. Like a big chunk of the NBA is making a decision that, by the way, I totally understand why they're doing it. It's the nature of the sport, the draft, and the rules in which they're forced to do it. I think it would be difficult for NFL teams to look like this. So here's where I would tell you, I'm not saying it would look as bad as this, but we saw what happened at the end of last season. You guys remember what the Raiders did? And the guys they were sitting in the open issue between... Max Crosby, that's the issue with them. That's why I wanted to be traded. You don't think. You don't think, Tique, as much as you hate it, and I'm not even defending it, that by November, we're going to see teams, general managers, not players, make business decisions and say, hey, you know, we got to lose these games. Let's sit this guy. Now, the players aren't going to like it. I understand that. I don't know if the players like it right now in the NBA necessarily. But I think the NFL's got to get ahead of it because I'm warning this commissioner and I'm warning this league. Your tanking issue is about to get worse. So instead of allowing it to

2:51.8

fester, you got time to change the rules before the season. Change the rules. Now, what do you mean

2:59.3

by change the rules? At the bare minimum, a lottery system. And I know that the NBA has it and it

3:04.2

still doesn't work. I get it. And we can fight over how you would execute it,

3:08.0

which we've talked about before on this station. But you've got to do something other than having a race to the bottom because it's going to happen. You know it's going to happen. Sean knows it's going to happen. We may be in the middle of it with the Jets. And it's not good for us as fans. It's not good for the sport. And the NFL, unlike the NBA, has a chance to end it before it happens.

3:29.4

And I'm telling you, the nature of this draft coming up, the nature of this sport, the way

3:34.2

tanking has become such a prominent part of the sports world, this is on the NFL and these

3:39.3

league owners and the competition committee to do something immediately. It's March. They have time. But if they don't do anything, Teak, I'm telling you right now, we're sitting here in November and we're having these conversations. So what does that look like? Do something immediately as what, just change how the draft works? Yes, I would have a lottery. I mean, at the bare minimum, a lottery. Yeah, but I think that wouldn't that have had to happen already?

3:59.4

No, for next year, this draft is set.

4:02.0

I'm talking about 2027.

4:04.0

For next season, there's more than enough time to tweak the system.
