Hello, welcome to EU to Campus, a podcast by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Washington, D.C.

I'm Joe Dunn. I'm the director, and the main mission of this office is to foster and build up relations

between the European Parliament and the US Congress.

At the same time, we're also providing information and building up awareness

in the US about the European Union,

especially in relation to democratic values and transatlantic

cooperation. This series of podcast is intended primarily to help you the students out there who are in the US

studying and following European Union affairs. So we hope we can help you by focusing on issues and events

that go into making our union one step at a time, one day at a time.

In this third episode of EU to campus, we will be talking with Professor

Vivian Schmidt, who is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration and Professor of

International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. Professor Schmidt is also

founding director of Boston University's Center for the Study of Europe.

Schmidt received her PhD from the University of Chicago. Her areas of expertise include the European Union, European politics and society, political economy, democracy, and the importance of ideas and discourse in political analysis.

Her latest book, published in 2020, is entitled Europe's Crisis of Legitimacy, Governing by Rules and Ruling by Numbers.

Other books she published include resilient liberalism in Europe's political economy,

debating political identity and legitimacy in the European Union,

democracy in Europe, and the futures of European capitalism.
