| 0:00.0 | Hi, I'm Steve Van Mieter, macro fund manager and inventor of Port FulloShield, and I'm here today with the President of Real Vision Travis Kimmel. Travis, thanks for joining me today. |
| 0:21.0 | Great to be here, Steve. |
| 0:22.5 | So Travis and I, we talk about macro pretty much every day, and Travis has a deep view in the macro world. He's got a great framework, and I wanted to get him on to talk about somebody such as because he's not afraid of the controversial ones. |
| 0:37.5 | But before we do that, I want to bring Travis's background into the picture here because a lot of us don't know where he came from. So Travis, can you tell us kind of what you were doing before you became the President of Real Vision? |
| 0:48.5 | Yeah, so back in the day, I graduated with a philosophy degree, and upon graduation realized the philosophy plant wasn't hiring, so had to figure out a way to make money in the real world and stumbled into software development. |
| 1:03.5 | I ended up going down that path as a developer for a few years, got into the management side of software engineering and quickly noticed that the tooling around how software engineering is managed is really kind of in the dark ages. |
| 1:18.5 | So a friend of mine and I formed a company called Git Prime back in, it was 2015-ish, and built out a platform that plugs in to sort of get and version control all these tools that software developers use to help give a better view of what's happening down the trenches. |
| 1:36.5 | And it was the CEO of that for four and a half years, and we ended up selling the company, did about a year of integration work, and then came over to Real Vision. |
| 1:45.5 | Well, that's really cool. So, but before this, you're kind of semi-retired, at least how you and I kind of met, starting to get to know each other, and then for those who have been Real Vision subscribers for a long time, there's one of two ways that you find out Real Vision is hiring. |
| 1:59.5 | One you log in and Milton tells you there's potential job openings, or number two, you're on Twitter and either Raul or the production team is flying a job, but with you, we didn't see that. |
| 2:11.5 | Just out of nowhere, Raul announces on Twitter, we have a new president, it's Travis. So I think, can you tell us a little bit about how that happened? |
| 2:18.5 | Sure. I initially reached out to Raul just to say thanks. I mean, I'm a big fan of the platform, I've been a subscriber for a while, and was trying to decipher the world of economics. |
| 2:30.5 | I found out that I had had some sort of misconceptions about that, and then found Real Vision and dug in and was watching at one point, initially I was watching like three or four hours of videos a day, I just got totally obsessed with it. |
| 2:42.5 | So I reached out to Raul and say thanks for making a great product, we connected, started chatting for a while, and then after a bit we started collaborating just kind of lightly on some ideas around how to build out additional software and features that he had an eye on. |
| 2:58.5 | And then we were talking on one meeting, he's like, hey, what do you think about coming over and being president? I thought he was joking. So I just sort of laughed, I'm like, yeah, cool, that sounds great. |
| 3:11.5 | Then he hit me up after the call, he's like, seriously, what would it take? So yeah, I mean, sort of stumbled into it, but I'm really glad to be here, it's an awesome group. |
| 3:23.5 | Well, I know on behalf of the subscribers and everyone else, we're excited to have you here. Can you share with us maybe some of the ideas that you have. |
| 3:31.5 | I know you've only been president for a short while now, but maybe some of those ideas you have for the Real Vision platform. |
| 3:38.5 | Yeah, we're really attentive to a lot of the requests that we see coming in, some of which are, you know, I think people have the experience that there's a lot there and that |
| 3:47.5 | fleshing out the UI, so it's a little easier to navigate being able to follow a theme through the platform. I think the first layer of what we'll do is |
| 3:55.5 | thinking about how we package all this content up so that people can track the things that they're interested in a little more specificity. |
| 4:01.5 | There will be a lot of other, you know, nice to have upgrades, kind of overall maturation of the software platform and then some super top secret stuff down the line. |
