We've talked on this podcast plenty about the difference in recruiting for Michigan men's basketball in

recent seasons. It's one of the few things that has drastically changed about the results for this

program from the John B-Line era to the Juwan Howard era, the wins, the high draft picks, those

both continue to pace. Yet recruiting rankings, recruiting stars, all of that, yeah, it matters. You're darn

right, it matters that Michigan is acclimating the top recruiting class in the country this summer,

but it's not the be-all end-all. And how about this for a paradox, for a discrepancy? As we get ready to

welcome in Musa Diabate to today's episode, One week after a fellow top 10 recruit Caleb Houston stopped by,

we're navigating through the NBA Free Agency news cycle.

And one of the biggest topics, not just here in Ann Arbor, but nationally,

is the reported five-year $90 million deal for Duncan Robinson to remain with the Miami Heat.

So a couple of five stars are coming on after a zero star ended up getting nearly nine

figures in free agency.

Now, Duncan's story is an outlier.

Heck, it could be a movie.

He's the highest paid undrafted free agent in NBA history.

It is bonkers.

But it shows you that recruiting and college basketball as a whole is an inexact science.

Though you can benefit from finding the right fits, the right people with the right mindset

and the right work ethic and acclimating them into a successful giving team-based system.

That has not changed here at Michigan.

The how is a little different from Coach B-line to Coach Howard, but the mentality, the approach,

the end result has ended up being very similar.
