We have two great guests on this week's episode of Defend the Block, as we get to know a couple of new members of Michigan basketball, starting with new women's basketball assistant coach Justine Ratterman, then we'll meet men's basketball's strength and conditioning coach Matt Aldrin.

As you'll learn from these two, their paths to coaching and to coaching college basketball were very

unique, winding, unexpected. And certainly we've heard plenty of reasons why the college

coaching profession has become more challenging, daunting, time-consuming. It is a seemingly

constant moving target for those who are in and amongst the coaching profession.

But there is still such a unique pull toward roles like the ones that Justine and Matt now possess,

because there is nothing quite like the peaks you can experience in high-level athletics,

even if the journey there looks

differently than it ever has. And today, where we stand right now compared to a year, two years,

10 years down the road, you better believe it'll look totally different in some ways. Sometimes

we can predict it in other ways where we can never even imagine it.

The reality is, as the profession evolves, so too do the individuals who attempt to climb

as high as they can in coaching.

And the people who do it and do it well tend to accomplish that with wide eyes and open
