0:00.0	It was fair to wonder if Michigan's 2-0 start was just the case of a couple of mid-major teams coming to Ann Arbor and the Wolverines taking care of business.
0:08.6	It was fair to look at this schedule and hope that Michigan could bounce back in a way in non-conference play that they just had not done in previous seasons.
0:17.6	Well, following Monday's dominant win at Madison Square Garden against St. John's, it
0:21.9	certainly feels like the Wolverines put college basketball on a little bit more notice.
0:27.0	It is still very early. Phil Martelli said in his pregame conversation with me that there will
0:31.3	be no nets cut down, no banners raised after this game win or loss, but that it certainly was
0:37.3	a heck of a litmus test against a
0:39.1	program with the Hall of Fame head coach and in events here at Madison Square Garden with his
0:44.2	first time as the head coach back here since his next days.
0:48.5	But in this one, Michigan took control really from the outset.
0:52.3	It was back and forth for a while, thanks largely due to the fact
0:55.6	that St. John's gobbled up some second chance opportunities, tons of offensive rebounds,
1:00.0	and Michigan was just not able to shoo away the Red Storm quickly. But as the game prolonged,
1:06.7	Michigan kept pulling away further and further. They led by a game high 10 at the break and then
1:13.1	really pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 26, before ultimately settling for a
1:18.4	16-point win. In each of the last two seasons, Michigan went down to the wire in February and in
1:24.7	March wondering what their NCAA tournament hopes would be.
1:28.1	Two years ago, of course, they were able to sneak in, despite the fact that they were one and three in non-conference, power conference games away from Ann Arbor, and the one win was against a UNLV team that wasn't very good.
1:39.6	Remember, they got blown out by Arizona.
1:41.3	They lost to North Carolina in Chapel Hill pretty convincingly and then fell right before the turn of the calendar to central Florida.
1:48.6	Michigan was able to sneak in and obviously made something of that year going to the Sweet 16.
