When you're coming off the type of season that Michigan men's basketball experienced a year ago,

it's easy to look at similar circumstances, scenarios, games, stretches, and try to compare and

contrast. Well, for the Wolverines, they're 2-0, and they've taken care of a couple of mid-major

non-conference foes. Last year, the Wolverines dominated their opener against Purdue, Fort

Wayne. But other than that, they certainly did not have any dominant performances in the non-conference.

They needed overtime to knock off Ohio at home. They eked past Eastern Michigan at Little

Caesar's Arena, and they certainly didn't dominate the likes of Lipscomb or Jackson State,

and of course we all remember what happened just before the calendar turned against Central

Michigan.

Well, here for the Wolverines, was a pretty daunting first two games from a by-game standpoint.

UNC Asheville and Youngstown State are not marquee names by any stretch of the imagination,

but UNC Asheville won both the

Big South regular season and tournament championship last year, and their pick to win it again this

season, Michigan bludgeoned them by 25. And then on Friday night, the Wolverines took care of

business against a Youngstown State program that won its first ever Horizon League championship

a year ago

and boasts a pretty good group of Transfer Portal products and they should be contenders in the league once again.

Michigan outscored both UNC Asheville and Youngstown State by a combined margin of 191 to 136.

They are shooting 55% overall and 40% from downtown, and the balance in

scoring has certainly been noteworthy as well, with Michigan coming up with four men in

double figures in each of the first two games. That is an important first step, but still
