There are not many nights, many games, many moments where something can be surreal and also

exactly what is needed and desired in the moment. The pregame leading up to Michigan and

Michigan State was emotional. It was unlike anything we've ever experienced in this rivalry,

maybe a Chrysler Center, and maybe in

college basketball.

You have two teams, two programs, two rivals that don't have a whole lot of love for one

another.

Yet what happened Monday night, the senseless killing of three and injuring of several

others, that brought people together.

It brought Michigan and Michigan State to a point where, in the lead-up to Saturday

night's game, Michigan State took the court for some warm-ups, and Chrysler Center applauded.

The maze rage stood to its feet.

There were Michigan State Spartan logos.

There were Michigan State green that permeated just before the national anthem.

The Michigan band performed the Michigan State alma mater.

Something that if I would have told you that would take place

a week ago, you'd call me crazy. But it was 100% the right thing to do, the only thing to do,

even if it was surreal. The unfortunate part about it all is that something so surreal comes about because of a starting

point, a moment, a devastating sequence of events that you can't comprehend.

That's surreal, but that should have never happened.

That's what took place Monday night.

And in the days and now in the games, after that, there's healing.
