Thursday night was certainly not what Michigan fans, players, coaches anticipated.

This was done from pretty much the start. Arizona State overwhelmed the Wolverines from the jump.

Saudi Washington told us at halftime on the radio broadcast that, yeah, call it like it is.

Arizona State was playing harder. They had the energy. They had the momentum.

And from there, they seemingly didn't miss.

Certainly, there were some defensive issues that Michigan has to clean up for Sunday and

beyond. Certainly, there were some things offensively that Michigan really struggled with.

But Arizona State took the momentum. They seized the control of this game from the outset,

and they never looked back.

Michigan was never within single digits for the final 33 minutes and change of this one.

Arizona State shot 60 percent, 32 of 53.

They were 11 of 19 from downtown, and Michigan offensively, 34 percent overall, 4 of 22 from deep. It was a struggle

from the start. And this was billed as Michigan versus Frankie Collins, but it goes to show you

that ultimately whatever the motivations are, whatever the storyline is, ultimately comes down

to who plays better in that game. Oftentimes,

that's how it's going to work out. And when you are early on in the season where you don't know

exactly how these teams are, we can predict, we can guess, we can assume. But there's no doubt

that through four games, Michigan has shown that there are some things to work on.

This team has to find a little bit more consistency.

And they need to find some fire, some oomph when things are going poorly.

Michigan didn't have that.

They certainly tried.
