Summary
David French and Curtis Chang discuss the hot topic of "deconstruction," a term with multiple meanings, from reevaluation of specific faith related issues to a deeper questioning of Christian faith itself. For many the discussion around deconstruction stems from some sense of pain or hurt caused by the church. David and Curtis (and producer Kris) explore the complex and deeply personal dimensions of this process, including practical suggestions for listeners.

| 0:47.0 | It doesn't matter if it's a big story, a small story, or something in between, as long as it's a story about what you are doing in your life. |

| 2:00.0 | At least for one brief and glorious shining moment last week, we passed Joel Osteen. We passed Joel Osteen. |
| 2:09.0 | Yes. We waved hello to him on the way as we zoomed right past it. But then he zoomed right past us the next day. |
| 2:15.0 | He did zoom right past us and he's still zoomed past us. But in our defense, where weekly, he's daily. So, you know, I'm still going to, I'm still going to take the W. |
| 2:26.0 | I'm still going to take the W. I'm still going to take the W. And we were top 100 and overall, like, entire overall universe of podcasts on Apple podcasts. |
| 2:34.0 | Yeah, it's amazing. It's amazing. I'm just, I'm blown away. I'm blown away by the response early on. I'm blown away by your emails. You're incredibly thoughtful emails that we've gotten that we're going to be trying to answer. And we're going to answer one of them in this podcast. But I just cannot thank you guys enough for your response to this podcast. |
| 2:55.0 | So far, I never thought that we would hit the ground running the way that we did. Oh, and producer Chris says it's mostly the production. No, I think, I think that's fair. I think that's fair. It's, it's all I think that's where people are listening to me and for for the, the still sit smooth moves of producer Chris. |
| 3:14.0 | Chris, the NPR level sound. But we do really thank you. So grateful for your response. So grateful for your feedback. If you've not rated us already, please go do that on Apple podcasts because that helps give us momentum, I think, in their algorithm. |
| 3:31.0 | At least that's the rumor anyway, that the algorithm measures momentum and, and one of the measures of momentum is ratings. So please go rate us. |
| 3:40.0 | But enough to do about us, Curtis, let's talk about, let's dive into something that really sort of roiling up the internet these days, the evangelical internet. And it's a topic called deconstruction. Okay. |
| 3:55.0 | deconstruction. And so what we're going to try to do is we're going to try to shed some light on this phenomenon. But before we shed light, we got to kind of define our terms and talk about what people are talking about. |
| 4:11.0 | And essentially, there seem to be two main things going on here. Two big strands, big strand number one is referring to sort of your personal faith. In other words, the way in which people have walked into a part of a stage of their life for their faith in one state and walked out of the stage of that, that stage of life with their faith in another state entirely. |
| 4:37.0 | In other words, in other words, they have changed, maybe changed denominations. Maybe they've left the church entirely. Maybe they've completely readjusted their view of theology that something has happened that has caused them to do an intense and personal re-evaluation of their own personal faith. And that's one kind of definition of deconstruction. |
