0:26.6	especially from travel originating in Africa. Across that continent, less than 10% of the population

0:48.2	safe against the new variant. Then, Moscow versus the West. After a week of much diplomacy

1:37.0	But first, here's my take. The saddest thing about the emergence of the Omicron variant
1:42.7	is its utter predictability. For months, even longer, public health officials have been
1:47.6	warning that as long as the COVID-19 virus can circulate freely and widely, it would change
1:53.8	its form and that those mutations could be more difficult to handle than the original
1:59.6	variant. In October this year, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown predicted just
2:05.0	this. He said, we in the West may feel safe and blessed at the moment because we've had
2:11.1	the vaccines, but we may find a new variant that comes out of Africa or Asia where people
2:17.1	have not been vaccinated and are not protected and it obviously isn't susceptible to the
2:22.3	vaccines that we have at the moment. The solution was also utterly obvious to vaccinate
