Here is what's driving the day.

The Hill has been a buzz this week as committee members jockey for new leadership positions

ahead of the holiday recess.

On Thursday, Arkansas Representative French Hill

was tapped to lead the House Financial Services Committee. Missouri Representative Sam Graves got the

House steering committee's okay to bypass chairmanship term limits and lead the Transportation

Committee. Michigan Representative Tim Walberg will lead the House Education and the

workforce panel. He vested Representative Burgess Owens for that role. President-elect Donald Trump

has also had a pretty busy few days. Yesterday, he rang the New York Stock Exchange's opening

bell, and his second-time person of the year cover was unveiled. Also,

you're not going to want to miss this week's episode of Playbook Deep Dive. My colleague,

Rachel Bates, sat down with Rodney Davis, a former Illinois congressman and current head of

government affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Davis has been tasked with a big gig, getting the

chamber swagger back with the GOP. Rachel and Davis covered a lot of territory, how much bad

blood is still left on the hill, what exactly he thinks Republicans need to do to craft a reconciliation

package that will pass in their very narrowly divided chamber, and whether successful

lobbying in Trump's second term will be about relationships on the Hill, relationships with
