But it's much more than that.

Deborah Rutter, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,

So I'm sure you know this, but when people think about or hear about the Kennedy Center for the performing arts,

they instantly think of the Kennedy Center honors.

What exactly are the honors and who's being honored?

Well, the honors are the greatest weekend of the year and it is also sort of the bane of our existence

because we really like to think about the other 364 days of the year as well and all of the

programming that happens on those days but it is a very special weekend and in fact in some cases we like to think about the whole weekend as a homecoming.

It's when friends and family and people who are engaged with the Kennedy Center

both as artists and as individuals come to the

Kennedy Center to celebrate the arts and the arts in America.
